2 Month Check-Up

I know you have all anxiously been waiting to hear what Rowan's official weight is, so here are the details. Today was Rowan's 2 month check-up today complete with 3 shots and a "drink" to prevent him from getting Rotavirus (basically the baby flu). The overall exam went well and Dr. Nau was pretty impressed with how much he's grown. No concerns about the umbilical hernia as it should heal on it's own. Today's measurements placed him in the 81% for weight and 61% for height.

Weight: 14 lbs, 14 oz
Length: 24 1/4 inches long
Head: 42 cm.

Of course I wanted to see how he "measured up" to the girls at this same age so of course I pulled out their journals. My first discovery that "age wise" this is about the time that the girls were discharged from the NICU. At a combined weight just shy of 18 pounds:

Abby- 5lbs, 11 oz
Zoe- 6lbs
Stella- 6lbs, 4oz.

And I finally remembered to bring my camera today, so here are a few pics of the kids with Dr. Nau-we just love him!

Sesame Street Live-Elmo's Green Thumb

So it's kind of been a tradition to attend Sesame Street Live each spring, but this year we didn't really give it much thought-until the last night of the show. Due to our last minute decision, we ended up losing out on part of the "tradition" of having our sitters, Mallory and Sarah join us. This only proved to be more chaotic-one more body to bring along (Rowan) and two less people to help keep the kids wrangled, have laps to sit on or help me coerce the girls into group pictures-and it was rainy and super windy too boot (that's super stressful when you are trying to get 4 kids inside of a building without any tragic moments).

Well, the pictures that follow pretty much describe how the night went.

Waiting for the show to start:

A few of our favorite characters:

During a potty break, I tried to convince the girls to stand next to the Elmo cut out so that I could get a group picture. Yeah...

And before we knew it, the show was over...

Pottery Class

There's a little shop in Coralville that has "preschool hour" every tuesday. Cost is $5 and you can choose from two different pottery pieces that the kids can paint. Then we give them back to be fired and pick them up the following week. We met one of Ian's co-wokers and her daughter, Jersey (who's only two weeks older than the girls) and had some fun painting. The girls chose to decorate vases for the grandmas for Mother's Day.

And Rowan slept through it all.

Getting Big

Two months have come and gone already, setting the tone for how fast he's going to grow! Sigh...

Believe it or not, this is how he tends/prefers to fall asleep if you are holding him:

Go Hawkeyes!! (we do live in Iowa ya know!)

There, it's settled...I do look like my daddy!

Rowan Speaks

Rowan started cooing a few weeks ago, but it wasn't until this last week that his cooing became a whole conversation-that usually happens with the ceiling fan. I may have mentioned his affinity for it, much like the girls had, but I don't remember them talking to it as much as he does. It's surprising what kind of conversations take place during diaper changes or at the 3 am feeding!

Rowan's Baptism

Rowan was Baptized on Saturday, April 24th and were so thankful that all of our family was here to help us celebrate! Yes he is wearing a gown and yes, that is what I wanted-I hope to have it be a family heirloom for him to pass down through his family some day. I'm pretty lucky that my aunt Margaret's sewing ability is so amazing that I have such things to pass on to my children. I started this idea with the girls-their baptism gowns were made out of my wedding dress. Needless to say, there wasn't much of that left, so Rowan's gown was made out of my First Communion Dress.

The girls all dolled up for church-they were pretty excited!

There were two other boys baptized that same day (the one on the far left was 6 weeks old, the one in the middle 4 months old and Rowan 7 weeks):
